How Robert Downey Jr. Felt Watching Spider-Man's Death In Infinity War

How Robert Downey Jr. Felt Watching Spider-Man's Death In Infinity War

If youre not a hunk of weeping personhood the moment Peter Parker collapses into Tony Starks arms, pleading for his own life in the face of Avengers: Infinity Wars Decimation, you just might be a stone cold professional. The moment is one of the most emotionally taxing events in that films mass casualty finale and, for some, its still pretty upsetting. Of course, for Robert Downey Jr., being one of those lovable stone cold professionals, its a scene that didnt really hit him until he sat down to watch it play out himself.

Robert Downey Jr.s story of how Spider-Mans death in Avengers: Infinity War finally hit him, and why its so effective in general, is as follows:

It was crazy to shoot it, but it was just another day, and then we were at lunch and doing stuff, because its a movie. But then I think seeing it -- and I happened to see it with this amazing Scottish kid who couldn't go to a theater -- so I saw it with him, and his reaction really effed me up. So I think what a lot of us are looking forward to is, like Kevin [Feige] always says, it's that surprise and delight experience with Endgame. It's one of those things where you go, 'Wow, I think we just made a pretty serious choice. But I think audiences like that. I think audiences are so smart and now so... they require to not be fed the same drivel as even twenty minutes ago. We need novelty and I think what the Russos and Kevin have been able to do is provide that in spades.

CinemaBlend was on hand to hear this story at the Avengers: Endgame press conference, as our own Eric Eisenberg was in attendance. And what Robert Downey Jr. said doesnt sound all that weird -- as in the moment of filming Avengers: Infinity Wars big emotional moment, its still kind of easy to get wrapped up in the fact that theres several takes to be filmed, so its easier to come back from that emotional investment.

Of course, with an audience that doesnt know whats coming, as well as within the confines of the narrative that Avengers: Infinity War put forth, its a completely different context. Despite the fact that pretty much everyone thats picked up a comic book knows that Spider-Man wont be dead for long, seeing Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr. really sell the moment jumps right over that logical hurdle and lands straight into the hearts of anyone watching.

The fact that this particular scene landed how it did with the Iron Man actor looks to have informed his performance in Avengers: Endgame, as the recent footage showing the moment where Tony reflects on Peters departure suggests that very possibility. Though if some of the theories that have come out in the past couple of rounds of speculation pan out, we just might find ourselves knocked out by Tony Starks fate in the long run.

Everything and nothing feels like a surprise in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as the choices made by the Russo Brothers and Kevin Feige fit into the Avengers storyline, while also throwing audiences for a loop. But when you can draw a reaction out of an actor like Robert Downey Jr. while watching those big choices unfold in a film like Avengers: Infinity War, you know youve done your job well.

Avengers: Endgame puts the Infinity Saga to bed, and probably revives Spider-Man in time for his sequel, on April 26th. Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Far From Home takes off for adventure on July 5th. The Sex Advice Fifty Shades Freed Actress Dakota Johnson Gave Jamie Dornan

The Sex Advice Fifty Shades Freed Actress Dakota Johnson Gave Jamie Dornan

It has been a few weeks since Fifty Shades Freed first hit theaters, and by now the third and final installment in the franchise is about to wrap up its run. However, there are still more than a few juicy tidbits from the set to go around, and while he was promoting Fifty Shades Freed on Conan, lead actor Jamie Dornan revealed that other star Dakota Johnson taught him a thing or two about seduction on the set. He said about shooting sex scenes with Johnson:

I feel like there's times where maybe Dakota would be quicker to give me a note than the director! In terms of like, sometime in the first movie, I guess there's a sexy way to take off a girl's underwear that isn't just like [grabs]!... But there is a more delicate and sensual way to do that which is thumbs into the side and then you sort of shimmy it down.

Conan O'Brien was asking Jamie Dornan how much the directors during the three movies intervened and gave opinion while filming the sex scenes, and Dornan admitted he learned more from Dakota Johnson than the other directors. This may explain how the chemistry in the sex scenes ended up working out so well. Although Jamie Dornan is married to Amelia Warner and Dakota Johnson has dated multiple people since starring in Fifty Shades of Grey, they seem pretty friendly on the set together, to the point where Johnson apparently felt comfortable telling him he was terrible at ripping panties off. And to the point where Dornan later felt comfortable talking about this story on the late night program Conan.

Previously Dakota Johnson has also talked about the ways she and Jamie Dornan would prep for the sex scenes, which involved drinking for her and push-ups for Dornan. Dornan has also talked about "the wee-bag" he had to wear during sex scenes and more. Despite their openness to talk about what went down behind-the-scenes and despite a pretty healthy box office intake, it looks like Fifty Shades Freed might be the end of an era. Dornan has also previously spoken out about how the lack of books written by E.L. James should signal the end of the series, also noting of his age:

I don't think there's any chance. I mean, there's no other books. Erika wrote the first two books from Christian's perspective, but I guess we've already seen, done those films -- the same stories -- so they won't do that again. Unless Erika keeps writing; but, Dakota and I, particularly me, are getting too old for this.

So, I supposed there theoretically could be more flicks that come out with the Fifty Shades franchise title sometime down the line; suffice to say, there's a good chance Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan probably won't be involved. You can next catch Dakota Johnson in The Peanut Butter Falcon and Suspiria and Jamie Dornan will play Will Scarlet in Robin Hood's upcoming remake, as well as will appear in My Dinner with Herve.

New Captain Marvel TV Spot Focuses On Carol Danvers' Origin

New Captain Marvel TV Spot Focuses On Carol Danvers' Origin

The calendar has just turned to 2019 and that means we're one step closer to the next chapter in the MCU, Captain Marvel. From what we have seen from the trailers so far, it is clear that Carol Danvers will be searching her past to find out who she is. A new TV spot for the Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck-directed film emphasizes how important that is by focusing on Carol Danvers' origin. Take a look:

In the beginning of this TV spot we hear Annette Bening's character reminding Carol that the Kree saved her life and gave it purpose. It is very indoctrinatory in nature and shows that Captain Marvel was in part made into what she is and has had little reason to question things or look behind her.

Something, presumably her arrival on Earth, changes that, and we hear her say, "Something in my past is the key to all of this." This film is already set in the past (1995, to be precise), and it will see Carol going back further on a journey of self-discovery to try and find out who she is. There is definitely a lot of mystery at play here.

The focus on Carol Danvers' origin and the "key" line indicates that some aspect of how Carol Danvers got her powers and the events that led her to where she is now as a Kree warrior on the Starforce will have important implications in the larger conflict Earth finds itself in the middle of, and it will likely be hugely meaningful to Carol herself.

What that secret is, we do not know for sure. Marvel recently made a change to Captain Marvel's origin in the comics, making her half-Kree and the explosion that gave her her powers simply awakening that part of her DNA. That provided evidence for the theory that Annette Bening's character is Carol's mother and the first Captain Marvel. If true we don't know what if this Carol might know and why her memory has been erased.

Of course, some think Annette Bening is playing the Kree Supreme Intelligence, and it was also seemingly confirmed that Jude Law is playing Mar-Vell and not Yon-Rogg. So it's all a bit of a mystery, and like Carol Danvers or Vers herself, we have a lot of questions.

Whatever the answer hidden in Carol's past is, the quest to find it will drive her story in the film and presumably cause her to take a new path afterwards.

We have heard that Captain Marvel won't be an origin story, at least not in the traditional sense, because when we meet Brie Larson's character, she already has her powers. But it is clear from everything we've seen so far that in many ways, the origin is the story.

Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8. For that and all the other huge titles coming this year, check out our 2019 premiere schedule.

For the record, the first Infinity War trailer played in front of The Last Jedi. Since Disney doesn't have a Star Wars release in December this year, it's harder to peg what Avengers 4 will be playing with. Mary Poppins Returns is Disney's big Christmas release this year, but that doesn't seem to have quite the fanboy leanings of Star Wars.
